Exercise may be the farthest thing from your mind right now, but it is the perfect time to think about it.

About this time every year people began to complain about the excess pounds added by Thanksgiving meals and worry about the upcoming Christmas season with its parties, feasts and treats. It is also that time of year when people start to think about New Year’s Resolutions, which often include something involving exercise.

Genesis Gym in Trenton is offering some new classes and services that can help get a jump-start on good health.

Grace Wooten opened Genesis Gym over three years ago. Since then, Grace and her employees have offered many services for those living in the Dade County area.

Currently, Genesis Gym provides a full line of cardio equipment, strength training equipment, free weights and personal trainers. Classes offered by the gym include step aerobics, group fitness, the fitness program Silver Sneakers for seniors, and Yoga. Genesis also offers products and services like nutritional counseling, AdvoCare nutritional supplements and Medifast weight loss.

Most recently, Wooten and her staff have also begun providing Tumbling/Dance classes, Mixed Martial Arts classes and lymphatic decongestant therapy.

Tumbling/Dance class is taught by Bailey Bethune and offered to children ages 3 to 12.  Bethune’s class offers a combination of gymnastics and dance and will be starting in January after breaking for the month of December.

Mixed Martial Arts is available for anyone six years old and up and combines Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing. Ryan Faircloth teaches the class with separate classes available for women, men and children ages 6 – 12 years of age.

Lymphatic decongestant therapy is offered to help boost the immune system which helps fight off disease and illness. The therapy is painless and easy. Those receiving the therapy begin with sessions once every week until their system is decongested. Eventually only occasional maintenance sessions are required.  Length of therapy depends on the individual.  Wooten is certified to provide the therapy at the gym.

Ray Helman is offering Ballroom Dancing lessons at night after the gym has closed. The classes are held from 7–9 p.m. and are not included in the gym membership.

Cost and class times vary so it is best to call Genesis Gym at (706) 657-5311 to get details on the classes offered.

For those who are only interested in using the gym’s equipment, memberships are available. Gift certificates are also available for anyone who wishes to give the gift of good health.
