The Dade County Emergency Management with assistants from the Dade County School System has recently updated its account with Emergency Communications Network, providers of the CodeRED high-speed notification solution and the CodeRED Weather Warning service.

This no-charge update will allow message recipients to easily identify calls coming through the systems. Message recipient’s Caller ID will read Emergency Communications Network or (866) 419-5000 for CodeRED calls. And for CodeRED Weather Warning calls, either Emergency Communications Network or the number (800) 566-9780 will appear on Caller ID displays.

This system allows emergency management responders to telephone all or targeted areas of the Dade County and the City of Trenton in case of an emergency situation that requires immediate action, such as severe weather warning or watch, tornado warning or watch, missing children and persons or evacuation, hazardous chemical spill, etc.  This system is capable of dialing the entire county and city within minutes.  It then delivers a pre-recorded message describing the situations to a live person or an answering machine in the affected area, possibly including instructions requiring immediate action on the part of the recipient, says Alex Case, Dade County Emergency Services Director.

“Residents can simply dial the number displayed on their Caller ID to hear the last message delivered. This will greatly reduce the number of inbound inquiries handled by our office and will offer residents an immediate replay of the message.”

The CodeRED system provides Dade County, City of Trenton and Dade County School officials the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas or the entire Dade County and the City of Trenton. If you are not sure that you are included in the database, simply log onto the Dade County Sheriff’s Office, any Dade County School system, Dade County Sentinel websites,   www.dadesheriff.com, www.dadesentinel.com, www.dadecountyschools.org, and follow the link to the “CodeRED Community Notification Enrollment” page.

It is recommended that all businesses register, as well as all individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changed their phone number or address within the past year, and those who use a cellular phone or VoIP phone as their primary number. You must use your physical Dade County address.  Do not use post office box numbers or out-of-town addresses.

Those without Internet access or should you at anytime desire to be removed from the calling list you may do so by calling (706) 657-4111 Dade County Emergency Services, Monday through Friday, (8 a.m. –5 p.m.) to supply their information over the phone.
