BERNARD BIBB

Bernard Bibb, 71, of Pisgah, Ala., passed away July 20.

Survivors include his wife, Bettie Bibb of Pisgah, Ala.; sister, Norma Robertson of Mesquite, Texas; nephews and their wives, John Michael and Nicole Robertson of Woodstock, Glenn and Pamela McDaniel of Pisgah, Ala.; niece and her husband, Kerry and Brian Burrows of Mesquite, Texas.

Funeral services were July 24 in the Kerby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Hastings officiating.

Interment was in Rosalie Cemetery.

HAZE CARTER

Haze Gilchrist Carter, 92, of Rossville, passed away July 19 in a local health care facility. She and her husband owned and operated Carter’s Restaurant in Chattanooga for many years. After their move to Section, Ala., they owned the This-N-That Store for many years. She also worked for the city of Section. In 2010, she was recognized by NHC Ft. Oglethorpe and honored as a Rosie The Riveter helping build war planes during World War II.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Churley Carter; parents, Kyle and Nell Marie Gilchrist; sister, Nell Marie Gilchrist; and brother, Kyle Gilchrist, Jr.

Survivors include many nieces and nephews including Joan and Virlon Veal of Lookout Mountain, Diane and Skeeter Williams of Rossville, Doug and Linda Carter of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Ellen (Tiny) Carter of Rossville; many cousins.

Graveside services were July 21 at Bluff Cemetery in Section with Rev. Ronald Ragon officiating.

NEWELL EPPERSON

Newell M. Epperson, 74, of Ooltewah, Tenn., passed away July 21 at his home. He was a native of Chattanooga and had lived most of his life in North Georgia. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a Major in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He served as the Walker County Superintendent of schools from 1972 to 1986 and was also the Educational Supervisor for Walker State Prison. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Epperson; and parents, Newell M. and Ruth Epperson.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Sandra Epperson; son, Mark Epperson; sisters, Glenda Epperson and Deborah Boehm; aunt, Sue Dover and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were July 23 at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Rev. Paul Chambers officiating. Full military honors provided by the VVA Chapter 203.

ROBBIE WRIGHT

Robbie D. Wright, 91, of Trenton, passed away July 23 in the Hospice of Chattanooga facility at Standifer Place. Originally from the Birmingham, Ala., area, she earned an LPN degree and had a career in neonatal care at Baptist Hospital in Columbia, S.C. She is a Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, a former Sunday School teacher and a current member of Trenton United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vergil E. Wright; and son, Ronald Duane Wright, aka Way Bandy of New York City.

Survivors include her sons, Gerald Wayne Wright of Buford, Vergil Alan “Pat” Wright of Rising Fawn; and five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were July 26 in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment was in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society in her name.
