Highway 157 Road Work
Construction work could soon begin on resurfacing Highway 157 in Dade and Walker counties.
Georgia DOT has just awarded a contract valued at close to a million dollars for a resurfacing project on State Route (SR) 157 in Dade and Walker counties. The project includes 7.526 miles of resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction on SR 157, beginning south of Mount Olive Road in Walker County and extending to the Tennessee State line.
The resurfacing project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2013.
Highway Dedication
Trenton’s American Legion Post 106 will host ceremonies at 1 p.m. Saturday dedicating the stretch of Interstate 59 within Dade County to veterans of the Korean War.
That part of the road will be officially named the “Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway.”
State Sen. Jeff Mullis, Dade County Executive and Commission Chairman Ted Rumley, other local officials and Korea veterans who live in Dade will attend.
Duck Race Is Saturday
The Chamber of Commerces' annual Duck Race Social is this Saturday. Festivities are from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at R-Haven Overnite Family Park on Highway 11 South.
Participants may purchase a chance on individual rubber ducks in any of the five “heats” for $5, or for $25 enter all five. The public is invited to watch the ducks race down Crawfish Creek though entrants need not be present to win.
First-, second- and third-place cash prizes of $500, $300 and $200 will be awarded.
