Lady Wolverine Sarah Reid and her teammates dominated play against Murray County last Saturday in the Wolverine Den. Dade defeated the Lady Indians 71-34.

The return to the hardwood after Christmas break wasn’t kind to the Lady Wolverines last week when they traveled to Calhoun to face the Lady Yellow Jackets.

It started out as a promising return as the Lady Wolverines took the early lead.

At the end of the first quarter the Lady Wolverines they were on top 11-9.

Things got a lot better for Dade in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Yellow Jackets 12-5 to take a 23-14 lead at the end of the half.

However, the second half was an entirely different game.

The Lady Wolverines, recovering from several illnesses over the holidays seemed to run out of gas in the second half as Calhoun rallied from behind.

By the end of the third quarter Calhoun had taken the lead, 30-29.

Dade couldn’t buy a basket in the fourth quarter, scoring only one point while the Lady Yellow Jackets pulled away for a 40-30 win.

The loss dropped the Lady Wolverines to 1-2 in region play.

Lauren Breeden led the Lady Wolverine scoring with 9 points followed by Ansley Chilton with 7 while Sarah Reid and Haley Gass scored 5 each.

On Saturday afternoon the Lady Wolverines hosted Murray County in another region game.

Dade fell behind early as the Lady Indians took a 7-3 lead early in the game. After a pair of baskets by Chilton to tie the game the Indians regained the lead 8-7 with just over four minutes remaining in the quarter.

A three point shot by Breeden put Dade on top 10-8 and they never looked back.

Up by four points at the end of the first quarter, 14-10, the Lady Wolverines took command in the second quarter. After an early Lady Indian basket the Lady Wolverines scored the next 23 points to lead at the end of the first half 39-12.

From that point on Dade coasted to its 11th win of the season and second region win, 71-34.

Erika Woodfin led the Lady Wolverine attack with 15 points followed by Tori Gass with 13, Breeden with 12 and Chilton with 10. In all nine Lady Wolverines scored in the game.

The Lady Wolverines hosted Chattooga on Tuesday night and will travel to Pepperell on Friday.

A game scheduled for Saturday at Buford has been canceled due to the death of an eighth–grade basketball player whose sister plays on the Buford varsity team. That is the fourth death in the Buford school family in less than a year.

It was unknown at press time if the game will be rescheduled.
