Lessie Lorena Atchley, 78, of Trenton, died at her residence Dec. 30, 2012. She was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker. Mrs. Atchley was past President of the American Legion Post #106 women’s auxiliary and Post Department President of the state women’s auxiliary.

Mrs. Atchley is preceded in death by her husband Joe Atchley, Sr.

Survivors include sons, Arthur J. Atchley, Jr., of Trenton, Danny Eugene Atchley of Trenton, Harold Raymond Atchley of Trenton; and Arthur Joey Atchley, III of Trenton; sisters, Elva Brown, Ider, Ala.; Ruby Nunley, Trenton; Denna Blackstock, Trenton; grandsons, Danny E. Atchley, Jr., and Brozon K. Atchley; granddaughter, Roxanne Atchley; great-granddaughters, Serenity Atchley and Alexis Frances; several nieces and nephews.

Ovie Joy Derryberry, 75, of Trenton, passed away Jan. 7. She was retired from Shaw Industries.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Grady Fossett and William Derryberry; sons, Willard G. Fossett and Gaylor A. Fossett.

Survivors include her son, Thomas Knight, Rossville; sister, Jolee C. Smith, Pisgah, Ala.; grandson, Andrew Fossett Gamble; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will at 3 p.m. EDT today in the funeral home chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Brother Michael Gass officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Park.

LONNIE DREW

Lonnie “Eddie” Edward Drew, 66, of Wildwood, passed away Jan. 6, at his residence. He was retired from Dixie Industries after 35 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith. He loved being outdoors and especially loved fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie J. and Ledell Drew and brother, Billy P. Drew.

He is survived by his wife, Maxie Drew of Wildwood; sons, James (Brenda) Ford of Wildwood, Jessie (Christie) Ford and John Ford of Jasper, Tenn.; six grandchildren; sister, Virginia Raines of Wildwood; brother, Ardell Drew of Rossville; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Jan. 8, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Lions officiating. Interment was in Hooker Cemetery.

VIRLYN DUNCAN

Virlyn Duncan, 84, of Dutton, Ala., passed away Dec. 31.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Omer and Faithie Williams Duncan.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Duncan; daughters and son-in-law, Vickie Dyer, Angela and J.P. Horne; son, Larry Duncan all of Dutton, Ala.; grandchildren, Carl J. Dyer, Travis Dyer, Jerry Dyer, B-Jay Dyer, Louise Dyer, Lacie Nichols; great-grandchildren, Paige Dyer, Connor Dyer, Brooke Dyer, Aaron Dyer, Seth Dyer, D.J. Gray and Chloe Bisher.

Funeral services were Jan. 3 at Dutton Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Johnson officiating.

Interment was in Green Haven Memorial Gardens at Pisgah, Ala.

J.W. FORSHEE

John William “J.W.” Forshee, 83, of Trenton, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012. He was a lifelong resident of Trenton and owner of Forshee Construction for 45 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Forshee; mother, Mildred Forshee; son, Dale Forshee; infant son, Billy Joe Forshee; brother, Lebron Forshee and sister, Vicky Holman.

He is survived by daughters, Barbara (Richard) Stewart and Dianne Forshee; son, Dennis (Karen) Forshee; sister, Sheryl (Randall) Dickerson; brothers, J.P. (Liz) Forshee, all of Trenton; Joe (Shirley) Forshee, Higdon, Ala., and Danny (Vickie) Forshee, Flat Rock, Ala.; very special friend, Bobbie Forester, New Salem; eight grandchildren and 11 great–grandchildren.

Graveside services were Dec. 31, 2012, at Lake Hills Memorial Gardens with Pastor Nick Forshee officiating.

JUANITA GALLOWAY

Juanita Galloway, 83, of Trenton, passed away Jan. 4.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Robert C. Galloway; father, William M. Childress; mother, Minnie Hazel Wooten; four sisters, Vernie Belue, Jewell Whitehurst, Vickie Galloway, and Janet Allen; three brothers, James Wooten, Richard Wooten, and J.R. Childress.

Survivors include by her sons, Carnell (Mayiris), Roy, Ronald and Rex Galloway all of Trenton; grandchildren, Clay Galloway, Stephanie Johnson, Roy Lee and Charles Edward, Ronald Luragene and Christopher Galloway; several great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; brothers, John and Mathew Wooten of Va.; five sisters, Pauline Smothers, Ala.; Ann, Barbara, Linda, and Ruby of Va.; sister and brother in laws; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services were Jan. 7 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Clay Moreland officiating. Interment was in Shanty Town Cemetery.

JAMES HATFIELD

James “Jim” Hatfield, 77, of Sulphur Springs, Ala., passed away Jan. 5. He was a self-employed machinist and a master electrician for many years. Mr. Hatfield was a graduate of Valley Head High School. He was of the Baptist faith and attended the Sulphur Springs Baptist Church.

 Mr. Hatfield was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Hatfield ; son, Roger Hatfield; granddaughter, Ruby Hatfield; parents, Weston C (Racehorse) and Ruby Hatfield.

Survivors include his sons, Rev. Benny (Kay) Hatfield, Somerset, Ky; Danny Ray Hatfield, Sulphur Springs, Ala.; Bill (JoAnn) Hatfield, Sulphur Springs, Ala. and Scott (Cynthia) Hatfield, Davenport, Fla.; brothers, Russell Hatfield, Trussville, Ala., and Ted Hatfield, Lenoir City, Tenn.; sisters, Carolyn Woodyard, Huntsville, Ala., and Myrna Estep, Trussville, Ala.; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Lenell Frost Hutcherson, 73, of Pisgah, Ala., passed away Jan. 6.

Survivors include her husband, James. W. Hutcherson, Pisgah; daughters, Donna Schultz (Brent) of Pisgah, Connie Taylor (Tim), Pisgah and Tina Sapp (Jimmy) of Langston, Ala.; brothers, Kyle Frost, Pisgah and Diaz Frost of Henagar, Ala; sister, Annis Graham, Sylvania, Ala.; grandchildren, Holly Cooley (Garret), Bradley Schultz and Jeremy Taylor; great–grandchild, Mason Cooley.

Debbie Louise Jones, 56, of Chattanooga, passed away Jan. 1.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Jones.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Chris Cecil of Cleveland, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Adrian and Shannon Stacy of Trenton; brother, Michael Jones of Bryant, Ala.; mother, Louise Jones of Bryant, Ala.; father, Alvin Jones of Atlanta; grandchildren, Austin Stacy and Dylan Stacy.

ZAC O’DELL

Zachery “Zac” Lee O’Dell, 19, of Trenton, passed away Jan. 2. He was a 2011 graduate of Dade County High School. He was employed by Car Max, Chattanooga, Tenn., was an Alabama football fan, loved old cars, was a Ford fanatic and member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Monroe O’Dell and grandmother, Marie Cagle.

Survivors include his parents, Kevin and Judy O’Dell; sister, Nikki Miller and brother, Devin O’Dell; nieces, Leanne Miller and Rileigh Miller; grandparents, Mary O’Dell and Levoy (Joyce) Cagle; uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of friends.

Funeral services were Jan. 8 at Mount Olive Baptist Church with Brother Billy Black and Brother Tommy Smith officiating. Burial was in Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Edward “Eddie” Scott Parker, 48, a lifelong resident of Lookout Mountain, passed away Dec. 29, 2012. He enjoyed hunting, spending time with family and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rick and Doris Imogene Parker, Sr., and brother, Ricky Parker.

Survivors include sons, Scott Parker and Chris (Brandy) Parker; sisters, Sandra Long, Deborah Douglas, Linda Herron; brothers, Danny Parker, Roy Parker and Gary Parker; companion, Becky Thomas; best friend, Brad Doerrwaechter; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Anthony “Tony” Joseph Pepe, 78, of Trenton, passed away Jan. 1. He was active with the Dade Senior Citizens Program and attended Rising Fawn Baptist Church.

IRENE PORTER

Miggie Irene Porter, 93, of Trenton passed away, Jan. 7, 2013. She was a long time caregiver, member of Dade Senior Citizens and member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Porter.

Survivors include her daughters, Ruby Fay (Gary) Pinkard, Atlanta, and Lou Edith Gass, Chattanooga, Tenn.; sons, Billy Joe Gass, Rising Fawn, Leroy (Doris) Gass, Ft Oglethorpe and James Austin (Diane) Gass, Henegar, Ala.; sisters, Emma Jean Edford, and Maybelle Reynolds both of Huntland, Ala.; several grandchildren, great–grandchildren and great–great–grandchildren; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be at noon today in the funeral home chapel with Brother Chris Haglor officiating. Burial will be in Head Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon today.

WILLIE

BETHUNE–PRICE

Willie Gilbreath Bethune-Price, 89, of Higdon, Ala., passed away Dec. 31, 2012, in a local health care facility.

She was born in Ft. Payne, Ala., on May 3, 1923 to the late William and Ellen Gilbreath and spent many years in Dade County, Bryant and Higdon communities of Sand Mountain. She was a member of the Mountain View Church of God and was employed for many years at Nation Hosiery Mill and Brock Candy Company.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Price was preceded in death by her husbands, J. B. Bethune and James Price; daughter, Sue Reeves; grandsons, David Reeves and Jordan Bethune; seven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her children, Donald (Evelyn) Bethune of Ringgold, Faye (Charles) Buchanan of Higdon, Ala., Terry (Diane) Bethune of Ft. Oglethorpe, Deana (Darryl) Smith of Ooltewah, Tenn., Gary (Connie) Bethune of Chattanooga, Tenn., Deborah (Rick) Lyons of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Ronald (Pam) Bethune of Ft. Oglethorpe; son-in-law, Douglas Reeves of Trenton; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Jan. 4th in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Bridges officiating. Burial was in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Terry Reeves, 64, of Lewiston, Maine, formerly of Trenton, passed away Dec. 30, 2012. He attended Dade County High School and served in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Reeves was preceded in death by his father, Tillman Reeves.

He is survived by his wife Catherine Rowan Reeves of Lewiston, Maine; son Ryan Reeves of Lewiston, Maine; mother, Pauline Reeves, Trenton; sister, Wanda (Russell) Blevins of Trenton; brother Donnie (Kathy) Reeves of Trenton; nieces Russana Jenkins and Kelsey Oliver, and extended family.

MARTHA SCHWARTZ

Martha McCurdy Riddle Schwartz, 87, Nashville, Tenn., passed away Dec. 23, 2012. She was founder of Sassafras Herbs, Inc., originally located in the Carriage House of the Belle Meade Plantation in Nashville. She was employed with Cheekwood’s Botanical Gardens for 15 years and was an accomplished artist. Her Forest Hills home garden was previously featured in Southern Living magazine.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Charles S. Riddle, Jr., and David A. Schwartz; brother, Mac McCurdy, Rising Fawn.

Survivors include her son, Charles (Trey) S. Riddle, III; daughter, Catherine Riddle Caffey; son-in-law, Lochlin Caffey, Jr.; granddaughter, Catherine Anne Caffey; stepsons, nieces, nephews, great–nieces, great–nephews and friends Gloria Clements and Charli Hailey.

Services were Jan. 5 at Woodmont Christian Church in Nashville.

Doris Ann Smith, 66, of Trenton, passed away Dec. 28, 2012. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed genealogy, and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents Calvin and Opal White.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne D. Smith; daughter, Paula Smith; son, Shane Russell; nine grandchildren.

A memorial service was Jan. 1, at Liberty Baptist Church with Brothers Leroy Peppers, Billy Dykes, and Zack Ditmar officiating.

Sarah Lucille Young, 80, of Trenton, passed away Jan. 2. She was a member of the Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Verda Mae Raines; son, Rickey Young; four sisters and one brother.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Zondra and J.E. DeVries; son and daughter-in-law, Leon and Benita Young; sister, Bonnie Jeffrey; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
