Political Debates
Do you plan to attend any of the political debates planned throughout the county in the coming weeks?

On Monday Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross appointed Cpl. Kristy Miles as School Resource Officer for Dade Middle School. Pictured are, from left, Dade County High School SRO Sgt. Tommy Bradford, Cpl. Miles, Lt. Barry Bless, DMS principal Karen deMarche, DMS assistant principal Brian Watkins and Sheriff Cross.

Dade County Sheriff Ray Cross is working with local school officials to keep Dade’s schools safer in the wake of the recent school shooting in Connecticut.

Cross along with Dade County School Superintendent Shawn Tobin, Emergency Services Director Alex Case, City Police Chief Roger Castleberry, Fire Chief Jerry Kyzer and Dade County school principals are reviewing safety procedures and discussing ways to improve students’ safety.

Cross implemented the first step in the new safety procedures by appointing Cpl. Kristy Miles as School Resource Officer at Dade Middle School.

Cpl. Miles will be stationed at DMS during the school day and will be interacting with students to establish a good relationship between the students and law enforcement.

Lt. Barry Pless will oversee duties at the middle school in the event that Cpl. Miles is unable to be there.

Dade County High School’s SRO Sgt. Tommy Bradford has dealt with issues at the middle school in the past that has warranted police intervention.

The Sheriff’s department and school officials hope the addition of the resource officer at Dade Middle School provides parents and students with a better sense of safety while at school.
