Meeting On Library Funds
The Trenton
Public Library’s nonprofit Friends group will meet at the library at 6:30 p.m.
on Thursday.
This is an
important meeting at which the future of the library and funding options will
be discussed, said an announcement for the meeting.
The library’s
future was imperiled in 2012 when one of its three local funding sources, the
Dade County Board of Education, opted an abrupt end of all support. An
outpouring of donations made up for the immediate shortfall, but as it stands
the library is funded only through the end of its fiscal year this June. Of its other two sources of revenue besides
the B of E, the city of Trenton is currently considering its level of support
and the Dade County government, though it has vowed not to let the library
close entirely, has reiterated often that it is already contributing all it
can.
