The Dade County
Wolverine basketball team traveled to Model last week to face the Blue Devils
in a key region game.
The Wolverines
and Blue Devils traded baskets in the first quarter with the Wolverines finding
themselves down by a point at the end of the quarter 17-16.
Finding their
shooting range in the second quarter the Wolverines built a big halftime lead
as they outscored the host Blue Devils 24-11 to lead 40-28.
The third
quarter was a repeat of the first as the teams matched baskets and heading into
the fourth quarter Dade still held its 12 point lead, 57-45.
Model made a
run at the Wolverines in the fourth quarter and with less than 10 seconds left
tied the game at 70-70.
Nic Gaddis was
fouled with four seconds remaining in the game and after missing the first of
his two free throws he sank the second one to give the Wolverines a hard fought
71-70 road win.
Cole Birchfield
led the Wolverines with 25 points and he also grabbed 11 rebounds. Clynt Bell
was close behind with 24 points, hitting six three point shots.
Gaddis scored
eight points but also had seven rebounds and eight assists. Dustin Howard grabbed
nine rebounds as well.

On Friday night
the Wolverines hosted the Armuchee Indians and the game was over early.
The Wolverines
jumped out to a big lead and never looked back as the outmanned Indians could
do little to slow the host.
By the end of
the first quarter Dade was on top 17-4 and coasting.
While the
Indians found their shooting range somewhat in the second quarter it was too
little too late as the high octane Wolverines continued their attack.
By the end of
the first half the Wolverines were up 45-21.
The Wolverines
didn’t let up in the third quarter as they built on their big lead by
outscoring the Indians 23-13 to lead 68-34.
With the big
lead the final quarter was only six minutes long with the clock running.
The Wolverines,
getting everyone in the game, still managed to outscore the visiting Indians
10-4 and claimed an easy 78-38 win.
With the win
the Wolverines are now 6-3 in region play and 14-5 overall.
Bell led Dade
with 29 points, hitting nine three point shots. Birchfield scored 17 and also
grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out six assists. Howard had another big game
rebounding as he grabbed 12 to go along with his seven points.
The Wolverines
have a pair of road games this week, at Murray County on Tuesday and at
Chattooga on Friday before hosting the Coosa Eagles on Saturday.
The junior
varsity teams will begin play at noon Saturday and varsity action begins at 3
p.m.
