The Dade County
Lady Wolverines wrapped up region play last week with a pair of wins over
Pepperell and Coosa to give them the third seed in the upcoming region
tournament in Rome.
Being the third
seed, the Lady Wolverines must win one game to advance to the state tournament
that begins next week. Two wins and the Lady Wolverines will host a first round
game.
The Lady
Wolverines will face the winner of the Murray County/Coosa game on Wednesday
night at 7 p.m. at Georgia Highlands College in Rome.
A win in that
game, they have defeated both teams twice this season, would put them against
Model in the 7 p.m. semi-final game on Friday night. Winning Friday’s game
would put the Lady Wolverines playing at 7 p.m. on Saturday but a loss would
put them in the 1 p.m. Saturday game where they would be playing for third
place.
Last week Dade
opened at home on Senior Night against the Pepperell Lady Dragons and wasted
little time in putting the visitor away.
Jumping out to
an early lead the Lady Wolverines built on a nine point first quarter lead and
by the end of the first half was up 31-12.
The Lady
Wolverines stepped up their defense and held the Lady Dragons to single digits
in every quarter and claimed a 58-30 win, their ninth region win of the season.
Ansley Chilton
had one of her better games of the season as she scored 18 points. Erika
Woodfin and Sarah Reid scored 11 each in the win.

On Friday night
the Lady Wolverines traveled to Coosa to face the Lady Eagles for the second
time in a week, having defeated them at home on Saturday.
Again the Lady
Wolverines opened fast and quickly had the host Lady Eagles scrambling to catch
up.
Dade led by
nine at the end of the first quarter, 19-10, and they never looked back from
there. By the end of the first half the lead was 19, 40-21.
The second half
was about defense for the Lady Wolverines as they held the Lady Eagles to
13-second half points and came away with an impressive road win, 67-34.
In the Lady
Wolverines last eight quarters they have given up only 64 points, an average of
just eight points per quarter.
Woodfin had a
big night for the Lady Wolverines as she poured in 27 points, hitting on seven
three–point shots. Hailey Gass scored 18 as she connected on three, three–point
shots.

The win left
the Lady Wolverines with a 19-5 overall mark and finished with a 10-4 region
record just one game behind Model who finished at 11-3.
A lot is riding
on this week’s games as the Lady Wolverines try to host a game in the state
tournament. A pair of wins will do the trick so get out and support the Lady
Wolverines, as the season’s work now must pay dividends.
