Political Debates
Do you plan to attend any of the political debates planned throughout the county in the coming weeks?

Casey Flynn makes a close play at first during action last week against the Section Lions. The Wolverines fought back after being down 5-0 to hand the Lions their first defeat of the season 9-7. The Wolverines have three games on the schedule for this week with region action set to begin on Tuesday at Calhoun. The Wolverines will be at home on Thursday against Chattooga at 5:55 p.m. and again on Saturday against Early County at noon.

The Dade County Wolverine baseball team is still battling the cold weather and rain as the season moves steadily along.

Last week Mother Nature produced one rain out and again on Monday yet another game was postponed due to rain.

The Wolverines did manage to get in one game last week when Section, Ala., came to Trenton. The Section team came in without a loss and playing really good ball early in the season with a junior dominated team.

It didn’t take Section long to take the lead as they scored a run in the top of the first inning on a pair of hits, an error and a hit batter. It could have been worse for the Wolverines with Section leaving the bases loaded.

The visitors would build on their lead in the second inning when they scored four runs on a couple of Wolverine errors, with two outs to take a 5-0 lead.

The Wolverines managed a couple of runs of their own in the bottom of the second when Garrett Moore and Luke Riddle scored. The two runs scored without a hit as the Section pitchers walked four and the runs scored on fielder’s choice.

Three straight hits by Section in the top of the third scored two more runs for the visitors and the lead was back to five, 7-2.

The score would remain 7-2 until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Wolverines started their comeback.

The inning started with back to back ground outs but with 2 outs the Wolverines got a single from T.J. Thomure, then Josh Core and Moore reached on errors.

Riddle then got an RBI single as did Blake Lynn and Hayden Johnson singled in two more runs to cut the Section lead to 7-6.

The Wolverines shut Section out in the top of the sixth and then went back to work.

Kendall Tripp hit a lead–off single then scored the tying run on a Nic Gaddis hit. Gaddis advanced to third on a Section throwing error.

Thomure then laid down a perfect squeeze bunt as Gaddis scored the go-a-head run. Thomure would then score on a double by Moore to put the Wolverines on top 9-7 heading into the seventh inning.

Section wouldn’t go quietly however as they led off the seventh with a double and a pair of walks loaded the bases but the Wolverines got the third out without giving up a run and claimed a big win over a very good team 9-7.

The Wolverines picked up nine hits in the game and had only one strikeout.

This week Dade will be busy, provided Mother Nature cooperates.

On Tuesday the Wolverines were scheduled to travel to Calhoun to open region play and then host Chattooga on Thursday in another region game. Game time is 5:55 p.m.

On Saturday the Wolverines will host Early County at noon in a game with another AA school from south Georgia who will be in the area for a few games during their Spring Break.

See next week’s Sentinel for details of all the Wolverine games.
