From Staff Reports
The 39th annual
New Salem Mountain Festival will be this weekend at the New Salem Community
Center. It’s celebration time on Lookout Mountain as the mountain’s unique
world of fall color and the abundance of human talent come together for the
artists and craftsmen will be exhibiting. Exhibits will include pottery,
furniture, wood turning, wood carving, decorative wood, stained glass, jewelry,
paintings, candles, iron works, wreaths, leather, purses, quilts, throws,
soaps, cat accessories, brooms, scarves, needlework, children’s accessories,
metal gates, rustic and wine bottle lighting, fabrics, chimes, jellies,
chowchow and much more.
Featured in the
gallery this year will be designer and artist Florence Love of Alpharetta with
her Flo-Thru Jewelry. This is enchanting and exceptionally handcrafted,
personally designed jewelry. Her line of wire-wrapped handmade jewelry is
carefully considered through selection of color, pattern, stone, size, quality
and longevity. She hand-selects the finest semi-precious stones and is inspired
by each individual stone, taking fine silver and 14-karat-gold-filled wire to
form each one-of-a-kind piece.
Love’s sister, adds to this fine collection her hand-knotted pearl jewelry,
gemstone flower pins and necklaces. These sisters are one dynamic duo, and for
more diversity, they have recently added sewn-fabric baskets to their lineup.
They will be working jewelry pieces during the show and you will be able to
handpick your favorite pieces to purchase.
The food booth
will be serving a good variety of home-cooked items and lots of goodies can be
found throughout the grounds. Entertainment will be provided both days and door
prizes donated by the exhibitors will be given away each day.
The festival is
sponsored by the New Salem Community Improvement Club, Inc., which is a
nonprofit organization. Proceeds from the event benefit the New Salem Community
Center and the New Salem Fire and Rescue.
Hours are from
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The festival is
held “rain or shine” and admission is $5 for adults, 11 and under free. Parking
