The Dade County Wolverine basketball team found the going rough last week as they played a pair of Region 7AA games.

On Tuesday they traveled to Rome to face the Coosa Eagles. The Wolverines got off to a good start and at the end of the first quarter held a three point lead over the Eagles, 14-14.

Things changed in the second quarter however as Coosa opened up and took control of the game outscoring Dade by seven and taking a 31-27 lead into the locker room at the end of the first half.

It was all Eagles in the third quarter when they ran the floor for 19 points while the Wolverines struggled to score 10.

Heading into the fourth quarter the Wolverines found themselves on the short end of a 50-35 score.

Coosa never looked back as the Wolverines tried to get back in the game but it wasn’t to be.

The Eagles outscored Dade in the fourth quarter by two and came away with an impressive 69-52 win.

Clynt Bell led the Wolverine scoring with 16 points followed by Nic Gaddis who finished with 11. Gaddis also had six rebounds and Reid Hulgan grabbed eight rebounds for the Wolverines.

On Friday night the Wolverines hosted the Model Blue Devils and were looking to break a two game Region 7AA losing streak.

The Wolverines jumped out to an early lead as Bell hit a three point shot just 15 seconds into the game and Hulgan followed with two points of his own soon after to take the 5-0 lead.

After giving up a slam dunk by Model seemed to ignite them and after a basket by the Wolverines to make it 10-4 the Blue Devils ran off 10 straight points to take a 14-10 lead.

The Wolverines battled but every time the Blue Devils answered and at the end to first quarter the Wolverines trailed 24-16.

The Wolverines continued to battle and after falling behind by 15 battled back to tie the game at 39-39 midway through the second quarter. The Wolverines would tie the game again at 41-41 but at the end of the first half the Blue Devils were up 48-41.

Model quickly expanded their lead in the third quarter to as many as 18 points but a late rally by the Wolverines cut into that lead and at the end of the third quarter it was 75-64 Model.

The sharp shooting Blue Devils continued to pour in the points and finished the final two minutes of the game by outscoring the Wolverines 10-2 to claim a big 105-85 win.

Gaddis who had his biggest game of the year, scoring 32 points and grabbing eight rebounds, led the Wolverines. Bell finished the 19 points and six assists and Mikey Williams scored 11.

Modeled finished with five players in double figures.
