The Dade County Lady Wolverine basketball team traveled to Rome last Tuesday to face the Coosa Lady Eagles in a big Region 7AA game.

While both teams got off to a very slow start the Lady Wolverines managed a one point lead at the end of the first quarter, 4-3.

It was all Lady Wolverines in the second quarter however as the Lady Eagles didn’t score a single point while Dade rang up 14 to take a commanding first half lead, 18-3.

Coosa played some better in the second half but the Lady Wolverines kept the pressure on and led 28-10 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Wolverine continued to control the game in spite of a late game, short–lived rally by  the Lady Eagles and came away with an impressive 40-26 win.

Sarah Reid led the Lady Wolverines with 14 points while Hailey Gass scored 11.

The win improved the Lady Wolverines record to 5-1 overall.

On Friday night the Lady Wolverines hosted the Model Lady Blue Devils in another region game.

The Lady Wolverines started quick and after just over two minutes held a 10-3 lead over the visiting Blue Devils.

Just as quick as they started the Lady Wolverines lost their shooting touch. Model ran off the next seven points to tie the game 10-10 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Wolverines’ Tori Gass hit a pair of free throws to break an almost nine minute scoring drought but were still only down by two points, 14-12.

The shooting woes continued for Dade however and at the end of the first half trailed 14-15, scoring just five points in the second quarter.

The two teams played almost even in the third quarter with Model leading 33-23 after three quarters.

In the fourth quarter the Lady Wolverines seemed to get their shooting touch back and cut the lead to only five points early.

With just over three minutes to play the Lady Blue Devils led 42-32.

The Lady Wolverines scored the next eight points and with 51 seconds remaining cut the Blue Devils lead to 42-40.

A made free throw cut the lead to 42-41 but the Blue Devils got the rebound and hit four free throws as Dade was forced to foul and pulled out a hard fought 46-41 win.

Sarah Reid again led the Lady Wolverines with 14 points followed by Hailey Gass with 11.

The Lady Wolverines will be playing in the Alfa Insurance Mistletoe Madness basketball tournament at North Murray Dec. 19-21. Call DCHS at (706) 657-7517 for game times.
