The Dade County Lady Wolverine basketball team hosted Calhoun’s Lady Yellow Jackets Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Wolverines got off to a very slow start as the visiting Yellow Jackets took the early lead and with three minutes remaining in the first quarter it was 8-0.

The Lady Wolverines then scored the next six points and at the end of the first quarter trailed 8-6.

Dade took the lead early in the second quarter, 9-8, but Calhoun quickly regained the lead and at the end of the first half were up 22-16.

The third quarter turned out to be the downfall for the Lady Wolverines as the Lady Yellow Jackets scored 18 points to take a commanding 40-21 lead.

Dade tried to rally in the fourth quarter but couldn’t overcome the huge deficit and fell to the visiting Lady Yellow Jackets 50-28.

Sarah Reid led the Lady Wolverines with 15 points, Lauren Breeden scored eight and Marjorie Bonner scored seven.

During the Christmas break the Lady Wolverines played in the Jon Loden Holiday Classic at Midway High School in Kingston, Tenn.

They opened against Cumberland County, the second ranked AAA team in Tennessee. The Lady Wolverines were never able to get on track and fell 60-30.

Reid led Dade with 17 points.

In their next game the Lady Wolverines faced Monterey and after falling behind early rallied to claim a big 47-34 win.

The Lady Wolverines had balanced scoring for the first time this season as Hailey Gass scored 14 points, Breeden 12, Tori Gass 11 and Reid 10.

In their final game of the tournament the Lady Wolverines faced Stone and again struggled to get consistent scoring and fell 54-23.

Hailey Gass led the Lady Wolverines with 10 points.

Dade travels to Murray County Tuesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
