An Illinois prosecutor died last week in what was first believed to be an accident but preliminary indications that his death may have been from natural causes.

When rescue personnel arrived on the scene at the entrance ramp to I-59 North on Highway 299 the tractor trailer he was driving was in the ditch with the engine still running and the truck in gear.

Dade County Corner Johnny Gray confirmed that James Drozdz died Saturday, Dec. 28. An autopsy was performed but results have not yet been released.

Drodz was a county state’s attorney from Hamilton, Illinois, and was driving a truck for food redistributors, Dot Foods as a hobby.

Drozdz was elected Hancock County state’s attorney in 2004, 2008 and 2012. Previously he taught at Western Illinois University and the Illinois Police Academy according to reports.
