Do you plan to attend any of the political debates planned throughout the county in the coming weeks?


Optimist Club's Essay Contest


Dade County school students are encouraged to enter Optimist International's essay contest by contemplating the phrase “How Dreams Lead to Success.”

Members of Trenton/Dade Optimist Club will judge the local students' essays, based on the theme of "How Dreams Lead to Success" and determine the top winners. Winners will receive awards and the winning essays will be sent to the district level where college scholarships are available for top winners.

The deadline for entries is Jan. 24. Public school students and home school students are eligible to compete.

 Students wishing to participate in the essay contest can find out more about the contest by contacting the club members or Rena Hammond, (706) 657-6562.

Sign Language Classes


Free sign language classes will begin Monday at Silent Word Ministries. Classes will be from 6:30-9 p.m. through Jan. 24

The class is free but materials are $5.

Silent Word Ministries is located at 6250 Hwy. 136 East, Trenton, just past Dade County High School.

Couponing Workshop


Fairview Church of God is hosting a couponing workshop Jan. 23 at 1 p.m. EST.

The workshop will be taught by a representative from Southern Savers and the cost of $10 per person can be paid at the door. Register at and click on Attend a Workshop.
