The Dade County Wolverine basketball team had a busy region schedule last week as the regular season winds down. The Wolverines traveled on Tuesday and then played at home on Friday and Saturday.

The Wolverines played Murray County on Tuesday and had a hard time pulling away from the host Indians in the first half. Both teams got off to a very slow start and at the end of the first quarter the Wolverines led 9-5.

While the pace picked up in the second quarter the Wolverines were only up by seven at the end of the first half, 23-16.

Dade found their shooting range in the third quarter however and rang up 29 third quarter points to only 13 by the host and took a commanding 52-29 lead after three quarters.

The Wolverines were then able to coast to a Region 7AA win by the final score of 69-43.

Clynt Bell had a big night as he scored 47 points, hitting 10 three–point shots. He was the only Wolverine to score in double figures.

Reed Hulgan grabbed 12 rebounds and Mikey Williams had 10 rebounds for the Wolverines.

On Friday night Dade hosted Armuchee in yet another key Region 7AA game. The Wolverines had dropped a heartbreaker to the Indians earlier in the season.

Both teams came out of the locker room with a hot shooting hand and by the end of the first quarter the Wolverines held a two point lead, 26-24.

That hot shooting continued in the second quarter with the Indians matching the Wolverines basket for basket and by the end of the first half Dade led 50-46.

The Indians tied the game at the end of the third quarter, 67-67.

As time was winding down, Dade held a one point lead with one minute remaining and had possession of the ball.

A missed shot and an Armuchee rebound gave the Indians a shot at victory and they took advantage and came away with another last second win over the Wolverines this season.

The final scored was Armuchee 83, Dade County 80.

Bell was again the leading scorer with 38 points while Nic Gaddis finished with 18.

Brice Stanley had a big night for the Wolverines as he scored eight points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked six shots.

On Saturday afternoon Dade hosted Pepperell. The game was a makeup for an earlier game that was postponed due to inclement weather.

The Wolverines and Dragons got off to a slow start with Dade taking a four point lead after the first quarter, 14-10.

The Wolverines opened up in the second quarter and built a 15 point lead over the visitors and at the end of the first half lead the score was 41-26.

The Dragons didn’t pack it in after the first half however and they started chipping away at the Wolverine lead in the third quarter winning the third quarter 22-18. But Dade still had the lead, 59-48.

Pepperell tied the game late in the fourth quarter but the Wolverines managed to hold on and claim a hard fought 78-72 win.

Gaddis led the Wolverine scoring with 24 points followed by Bell with 14 and Williams and Stanley with 12 each. Stanley also had 11 rebounds in the game.

This week the Wolverines will travel to Rome to face Model’s Blue Devils on Friday.
