The Dade County Lady Wolverine basketball team battled through another tough week as they played a pair of Region 7AA games as the season winds down and the region tournament is on the horizon.

With only eight players the Lady Wolverines are limited as to what they can do for an entire game as most opponents have several more players they can go to if need be.

On Tuesday Dade hosted the Lady Eagles of Coosa in a key region match up.

Both teams got off to a slow start but the Lady Wolverines held a two point lead at the end of the first quarter, 9-7.

The second quarter action was much like the first as the two teams struggled to score points. When the end of the first half finally arrived the Lady Wolverines were up 16-12, holding Coosa to only five second quarter points.

Dade took control in the third quarter building their lead to eight points behind the clutch play of Sarah Reid.

The Lady Wolverines put the icing on the cake in the fourth quarter and came away with a much needed 39-28 over the Lady Eagles.

Reid led the Lady Wolverines with 17 points with Tori Gass and Lauren Breeden scoring seven points each.

On Friday night the Lady Wolverines traveled to Model for yet another region match up.

This time Dade was looking to avenge an early season loss to Model.

The Lady Blue Devils took an early lead and again the Lady Wolverines had trouble scoring early in the game.

By the end of the first quarter Model had a five point lead, 14-9.

In the second quarter the Lady Wolverines continued to play tough defense and matched the Lady Blue Devils almost basket for basket but at the end of the first half still were on the short end of the 26-20 score.

The third quarter, as it has been many times this season, proved to be Dade’s downfall as they managed only eight points. Meanwhile Model was putting up 15 points to take a commanding 41-28 lead.

The fourth quarter was basket for basket but the Lady Wolverines were never able to cut into the Lady Blue Devils lead and ended on the short end of the 63-49 score.

Reid had one of her most productive games of the year as she led the Lady Wolverines with 24 points while senior Hailey Gass scored 11 and Marjorie Bonner added eight.

This week the Lady Wolverines will again be on the road with games at Chattooga on Friday, at Gordon Lee on Saturday and at Calhoun on Tuesday.
