The Dade County Wolverine basketball team hit the court last week with every remaining region game being important for tournament match ups.

The Wolverines faced Coosa on Tuesday night at home looking to pick up a key win and they came out red hot against the visiting Eagles.

By the end of the first quarter the Wolverines had built a nine point lead, 27-18, and seemed on their way to a big win.

Unfortunately for Dade you have to play all four quarters.

While they maintained their lead in the second quarter Coosa stepped up their game and almost matched the Wolverines point for point. At the end of the first half the Wolverines were on top, 50-40.

It was the Eagles who were red hot in the third quarter as they outscored the host Wolverines 25-11 to not only wipe out the 10 point lead the Wolverines enjoyed at the half but to a four point lead of their own.

As hard as the Wolverines tired in the fourth quarter they were never able to regain the lead and fell to the Eagles 86-82.

Clynt Bell led all scorers with 37 points while Nic Gaddis scored 16 and Mikey Williams scored 15 on five three point shots.

Williams and Brice Stanley grabbed eight rebounds each and Gaddis and Reed Hulgan had six rebounds each for the Wolverines.

On Friday night the Wolverines traveled to Model looking to avenge their worst loss of the season when Model scored 105 points on them early in the season.

As was the case on Tuesday night Dade jumped out front in the first quarter, outscoring the Blue Devils 15-10.

The two teams swapped baskets in the second quarter and at the end of the first half the Wolverines held on to their five point lead, 30-25.

The third quarter saw the two teams score almost as many points as they did the entire first half as the Model would burn the nest for 30 points while the visiting Wolverines scored 20. When the quarter ended the Blue Devils had the lead, 55-50.

Dade continued to battle but couldn’t overcome the Blue Devil’s lead and dropped their second game of the week, 76-69.

Bell led the Wolverines with 31 points while Gaddis scored 23 and Williams added 10.

Hulgan grabbed 16 rebounds in the contest while Williams had eight and Kyle Castleberry had seven.

Dade will travel to Chattooga on Friday in another Region 7AA match up and wrap up the regular season next week at Calhoun on Tuesday.
