Lauren Breeden drives to the goal for the Lady Wolverines.

By: Eddy Gifford, Publisher

The Dade County Lady Wolverines traveled to Summerville last Friday for a big 7-AA region game with the Lady Indians of Chattooga. A win and the Lady Wolverines would have the fourth seed in the upcoming region tournament and a first round bye.

The Lady Wolverines got off to a good start in spite of Sarah Reed being sick and not dressed for the game.

Marjorie Bonner scored six of the first seven points in the game as Dade took a 7-0 lead after the first five minutes of play.

The Lady Indians scored their first basket of the game with 2:43 remaining in the quarter but the Lady Wolverines claimed an 11-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Wolverines maintained their lead until four minutes remained in the first half and the Lady Indians outscored them 7-1 to tie the game at 14-14 at the end the first half.

In the third quarter Chattooga built an eight point lead with just over two minutes remaining in the quarter but the Lady Wolverines rallied to score the final six points of the quarter and only trailed 28-26 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth quarter the Lady Wolverines owned the free throw line, hitting an outstanding 16 of 18 attempts.

That hot shooting from the line was what Dade needed as they pulled out a big 50–44 win.

Tori Gass and Marjorie Bonner led the Lady Wolverines with 15 points each while Haley Gass scored nine and Lauren Breeden scored seven. Hannah Monday scored three points and Jessica Vaughan scored one.

On Saturday afternoon the Lady Wolverines traveled to Chickamauga to face the Lady Trojans of Gordon Lee.

The Lady Wolverines played again without the services of Reed who was with the team but unable to play for the second game in a row.

It turned out to be a long afternoon for the Lady Wolverines after playing the Lady Trojans even after the first quarter, 9-9.

Dade couldn’t get their shots to fall in the second and third quarters as they were outscored 11-3 in the second and 16-4 in the third quarter.

Things didn’t get any better in the fourth quarter for the Lady Wolverines as they were again outscored 20-10 and fell to the host Lady Trojans 56-26.

Playing two nights in a row with only eight players took its toll on Dade.

Tori Gass led the scoring for the Lady Wolverines with nine points followed by Breeden with eight, Haley Gass with four, Monday added two points and Vaughan with one.

This week the Lady Wolverines wrap up the regular season by traveling to Calhoun on Tuesday and Pepperell on Friday.
