The Dade County High School Wolverine basketball team wrapped up the regular season last week with a pair of road games.

On Tuesday night the Wolverines traveled to Calhoun to face the Yellow Jackets and to get their first look at the new Calhoun gym, where the Region 7AA tournament will be held this week.

Dade fell behind early but stayed with the Yellow Jackets and after the first quarter were down by two, 15-13.

In the second quarter Calhoun was able to increase their lead by three and at the end of the first half the Jackets were on top 34-29.

The Wolverines continued to battle in the second half and outscored the host 14-12 in the third quarter. While still trailing, 46-43, Dade appeared to be taking control of the game.

The fourth quarter saw the Wolverines get close but was never able to make it over the hump and ended up falling to the Yellow Jackets 65-63.

This was in sharp contrast to Dade’s win over Calhoun at home earlier in the season. That was a classic game that went into four overtimes with the Wolverines coming out on top 104-102.

Clynt Bell led the Wolverine scoring with 22 points while Nick Gaddis scored 18.

Reid Hulgan and Brice Stanley had nine rebounds each for the Wolverines in the game.

On Friday night Dade traveled to Pepperell to face the Dragons. A win would guarantee the Wolverines the fourth seed in the upcoming Region 7AA tournament and a first round bye.

It didn’t take the Wolverines long to establish who the superior team was in this game as they raced out to a double digit lead in the first quarter. By the end of the quarter Dade was up 22-11.

The Wolverines continued to pour it on in the second quarter when it seemed they couldn’t miss from three point range, especially Bell who burnt the nets for 10 three–point shot in the first half.

By the end of the first half Dade was in total control leading 48-23.

The Wolverines coasted in the second half as everyone got playing time. At the end of the third quarter the Wolverines led 64-39.

Pepperell managed to cut into the lead in the fourth quarter but it was too little too late for them as the Wolverines claimed an easy 76-60 win.

Bell led the way with 42 points, hitting 12 three–point shots in the game. He was the only Wolverine to score in double figures.

Stanley grabbed 12 rebounds while Hulgan grabbed eight and Nic Gaddis dished out six assists.

The Wolverines get a bye in the first round of the region tournament that started on Tuesday at Calhoun and will play the winner of the Murray County/Chattooga game on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Calhoun.
