The Dade County Lady Wolverine basketball team was on the road last week for the final two games of the regular season and was hoping to end on a positive note even without the help of Sarah Reid for the second week in a row. Reid has been out sick and is hoping to get the go ahead on Monday to play in the Region 7AA tournament this week in Calhoun.

Dade traveled to Calhoun on Tuesday to face the Lady Yellow Jackets and in spite of their shrinking numbers managed to keep the game close. At the end of the first quarter Calhoun led 14-8.

Even though the Lady Wolverines have only eight players they play hard and are always in the game. They usually struggle in the second half but continue to play hard.

This time they only managed five second quarter points and held the Lady Yellow Jackets to only nine but trailed at the end of the first half 23-13.

Coming out in the third quarter Dade stayed with the host and at the end of the third quarter was down 37-34.

Still playing hard the Lady Wolverines just didn’t have enough left to rally and fell to the host 49-31.

Lauren Breeden led the Lady Wolverines with 10 points and Marjorie Bonner added eight for the Lady Wolverines.

On Friday night Dade faced the Lady Dragons at Pepperell in the final regular season game.

In the first quarter both teams struggled to score and when it ended the Lady Dragons were on top, 9-6.

The two teams continued to have trouble scoring in the second quarter as well and at the end of the first half the Lady Wolverines were on the short end of an 18-11 score.

Pepperell found something in the locker room at halftime and came out smoking as they scored 21 points while Dade could only manage nine and trailed 39-20.

The two teams played even in the fourth quarter but the game had already been decided as the Lady Dragons came away with the 53-33 win.

Tori Gass led the Lady Wolverines with 15 points while Breeden and Bonner each scored eight.

The Lady Wolverines claimed the fourth seed in the upcoming Region 7AA tournament and a first round bye for their efforts. They will face the winner of the Model/Chattooga game on Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. at Calhoun High School.

A win by the Lady Wolverines puts them in the state tournament while a loss will end their season.
