Qualifying has ended for the upcoming May 20th election and a total of 11 candidates qualified for the four open spots – two on the Board of Education and two Dade County Commission seats.

For the Dade County Board of Education District 1 two Democrats qualified. Ronald W. Baldwin and Jane Dixon will face off against Cindy Shaw, the Republican incumbent.

Dade County Board of Education District 2 will have a new representative after the May election, as incumbent Jeff Forester will not seek re-election. Forester has been the District 2 BOE representative for the past three years.

Residents qualifying for District 2 were Jennifer Hartline, Summer Lawson Kelly and Larry G. Williams. All three qualified as Republicans.

In the Dade County Commission races District 1 has three candidates – all Republicans. Incumbent Mitchell Smith will face Lamar Lowery and Terry Phillips.

For the District 2 Commission seat Incumbent Scottie Pittman will face off against Nathan M. Baker. Both are running on the Republican ticket.

Three of the four races will be over after the primary as only the District 1 School Board seat has a Republican and Democratic candidate.
