The Dade County Wolverine baseball team picked up a pair of much needed wins last week as they hosted Murray County and traveled to Coosa.

On Tuesday afternoon the Wolverines hosted the Murray County Indians and wasted little time sending them packing for home.

In the first inning Dade scored four runs to take the early lead and then in the second inning finished off the visitor from Chatsworth by scoring 11 runs to take a 15-0 lead.

After retiring the Indians in the top of the third without a run the game was called due to the 15 runs lead after three innings rule.

The Wolverines pounded out 12 hits in the two at-bats with Josh Core leading the way with three hits while Garrett Moore had two hits and everyone else in the lineup had a hit.

Blake Lynn pitched the three innings for Dade giving up one hit and striking out five.

On Thursday afternoon the Wolverines traveled to Rome to face the Coosa Eagles.

Dade took the lead in the first inning, scoring two runs. They would add another run in the top of the third to go up 3-0.

Core breezed through the first three innings, shutting out the host and held them to just a couple of base runners. He ran into trouble in the fourth inning however as the Eagles scored a pair of runs to cut the Wolverine lead to 3-2.

Dade quickly responded by scoring again in the top of the fifth to take a 4-2 lead.

The Wolverines held the 4-2 lead until the bottom of the seventh when the game turned in Coosa’s favor.

Dade has struggled finishing games all season and it was looking like it might happen again.

Three consecutive errors loaded the bases with no outs but Nic Gaddis continued to battle from the mound and Dade managed to limit the Eagles to two runs to tie the game 4-4.

The eighth inning was scoreless as neither team was able to make a real threat.

In the top of the ninth inning the Wolverines managed to push a run across to take the lead 5-4.

Coosa tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth getting a pair of runners on but were unable to score and the Wolverines claimed the much needed win.

Dade pounded out 11 hits with Gaddis, Core, Lynn and Moore having two hits each. Luke Riddle scored the winning run in the top of the ninth.

Gaddis picked up the win pitching four innings, giving up one hit and no earned runs. Core also pitched well going five innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out six.

This week the Wolverines were to host Armuchee on Tuesday and will travel to Calhoun on Thursday, both games being region games.
