A tragic accident last Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of a Chattanooga man.

Alvin Yount, 80, of Cash Canyon Road, Chattanooga, Tenn., was killed when his pickup truck was struck by a Norfolk Southern train at Carroll Road in Wildwood.

Witnesses said they didn’t think Yount saw the train that struck his truck on the passenger side and pushed it some three–tenths of a mile down the tracks before coming to a stop.

North Dade and Trenton fire departments responded to the scene and extinguished a fire in the engine compartment of the truck.

The Georgia State Patrol investigated the accident.

The Carroll Road crossing has seen its share of train verses vehicle accidents over the years but it was believed this was the first fatality at the crossing.
