Political Debates
Do you plan to attend any of the political debates planned throughout the county in the coming weeks?

By: Eddy Gifford, Publisher

The Dade County Board of Education held a special called meeting last Thursday to discuss the track facilities at Dade County High School.

Late last year it was discovered that one of the radiuses was off and that the track was too long. While the Board had discussed the issue before it was determined that work wouldn’t be possible until spring when the weather warmed up.

The Board questioned the contractor why preliminary work hadn’t been done earlier and that now with expected repairs taking several weeks that they would be hard pressed to be complete before football season.

The contractor indicated that repairs would take at least two months providing good weather and no problems with rock were encountered.

After a lot of discussion and questions from board members the meeting was adjourned to the track to look at options and what could be done to solve the problem.

While no decision was made at the meeting the contractor and architect were looking into the problem and would have a recommendation soon.

It is expected the issue will come up at next week’s board meeting and work should begin on the repairs soon.
