Political Debates
Do you plan to attend any of the political debates planned throughout the county in the coming weeks?

The Dade County High School tennis teams traveled to Calhoun last week to participate in the region 7-AA tournament.

The Lady Wolverines came into the tournament as the seventh seed and faced the second seed Lady Indians of Murray County.

The Lady Wolverines had a tough time with the Lady Indians dropping all five matches and were eliminated from the tournament. They finished the season with a 4-9 record.

Coach Allan Morris said the four seniors on the team, Madison Lacy, Natalie Wallin, Marjorie Bonner and Brooklyn Poston had contributed to the team the last four years and their efforts were greatly appreciated and they will be missed.

The Wolverines entered the tournament as the sixth seed and faced the Coosa Eagles who came in as the three seed.

The two teams battled the entire match with the final results in doubt until the final match.

Austin Cravatt picked up a hard fought win for the Wolverines as he defeated Jacob McLean 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The Wolverines then dropped the next two singles matches.

The doubles team of Zach Freeman/Stephen McCormick picked up another big win for the Wolverines when they defeated Bryce Ray/Dylan Rogers 6-4, 6-2.

The Eagles would pull the match out 3-2 with all five matches going down to the wire.

The Wolverines finished the season 6-7 and the future looks bright as all seven starters will be returning next year.

Coach Morris said, “The team will miss Kyle Adkins, the only senior, who contributed a lot to the team on and off the court. His sportsmanship and competitive drive will be impossible to replace.”

“The Wolverines finished undefeated at home, so the team is excited at the prospect of playing at the six new tennis courts that will be at the high school next year,” Morris added.
