On Thursday, Aug. 21st just before dark, deputies from the Jackson County Sheriff’s office responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence at 1541 County Road 291 in Bryant, Ala.
Upon arrival, deputies found two females (wife and daughter) in the yard of the residence behind a truck. Deputies began having a conversation with the females at which time a white male, later identified as Jerry David Nunley, age 44, of Bryant, Ala., walked out of the residence with two weapons, one in each hand.
Deputies began giving verbal commands to Nunley to drop the weapons that were ignored. Nunley then approached the deputies and threatened to kill them. Deputies continued to give verbal commands for Nunley to drop the weapons, which were again ignored.
Nunley continued to approach deputies and raised one of the weapons, at which time one of the deputies shot Nunley. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and ambulance was immediately requested and responded to provide medical attention. Nunley was transported to Erlanger Hospital via Air Evac helicopter.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigations was contacted and responded to conduct the investigation of this incident. The results of this investigation will be presented to a future Grand Jury seated in Jackson County.
