The Dade County Board of Education met Monday, Aug. 18 for its monthly meeting with all members present.
The Board held a brief executive session at the end of the meeting and returned to approve a two–year contract for new Superintendent Cherie Swader.
The contract sets Swader’s salary at $110,000 per year minus the five administrative furlough days. The salary is the same as that received by former Superi-ntendent Shawn Tobin.
The Board also approved the consent agenda that included the overnight trip for the Dade High School baseball team in the spring; equipment repair bids; ware–washing chemical bids; pest control bid; the Dade Middle School Washington trip; excavation work bid for Dade Elementary playground; and Softdocs bid that will digitally store school records.
The Board also approved a new surveillance system bid for Dade Middle and Davis Elementary School and some updates at Dade High School. The original bid was $332,405.37. After review of the original proposal the new bid was $285,846.25 and was approved by the Board. SPLOST money will be used for this project.
The Board also accepted the recommendation of Superintendent Swader and hired Elizabeth Ott, paraprofessional, Kurt Wallin and Chris Leverett as custodians and accepted the resignation of Glen Hicks as track coach.
Jamie McMahan will be the new track coach. This is an administrative move and did not require Board action.
The Board also approved the 2015 athletic supplements. Those supplements break down as follows: football $35,910; boys basketball $15,165; girls basketball $15,165; baseball $5,850; softball $5,850; golf $2,304; tennis $2,304; cheerleading pep/competitive $5,400; cross country $1,152; track $1,902; wrestling $5,850; soccer $9,000; athletic trainer $2,304; weight training coordinators $5,400 and athletic director $13,950; for a total of $131,789. In addition the Band Director receives a supplement of $4,283.
Dade Middle School supplements were also approved for a total of $19,350. That breakdown includes: football $4,050; softball $1,800; cross country $900; cheerleading $900; boys basketball $2,700; girls basketball $2,700; wrestling $900; boys and girls soccer $1,800; baseball $2,700; and athletic director $900.
