Political Debates
Do you plan to attend any of the political debates planned throughout the county in the coming weeks?

DCHS shortstop Carri Pierce makes the play and prepares to throw to first for the out as the Model player scrambles back to second base.

The Dade County Lady Wolverine softball team had three region games last week and they stepped it up a notch in claiming three big wins.

While this is considered a rebuilding year so far the Lady Wolverines have met the challenge and answered the call.

On Monday Dade defeated the Chattooga Lady Indians by a score of 9-0.

In the game Sydney Poston, Carly Stephens, Cassie Rae Higdon and Haley Keesler all had two hits each in the 11 hit attack.

Haley Bayer picked up the win and recorded three strikeouts. She had great support from the Lady Wolverine defense.

The Lady Wolverines traveled to Darlington on Tuesday to face one of the new members to Region 7-AA. For the past few years Darlington has competed in 6-A.

The Lady Wolverines didn’t offer the host any sympathy as they took another region win by a final score of 9-4.

Keesler, Autumn Smith and Kaitlyn Booth led the Lady Wolverine attack with three hits each while Pierce and Morgan Lacy had a pair of hits each.

Bayer picked up the win recording four strikeouts and only giving up one walk.

On Thursday Dade played host to the Model Lady Blue Devils. The Blue Devils’ bus broke down in LaFayette so they were late getting to the game. That didn’t seem to bother the Lady Wolverines as they took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back winning by a final score of 13-2.

Their red–hot bats continued to sizzle as they pounded out 19 hits in the game including a three run home run by Stephens.

Booth led the Lady Wolverines with four hits followed by Poston with three. Pierce and Keesler had a pair of hits each.

The win went to Booth who pitched four innings, recording five strikeouts and giving up three walks.
Coach Christine Core Engbers said, “The girls responded exactly how I wanted them to this week! All of their tough work so far paid off by winning three region games. We had 47 hits this week, so I’m excited that the bats are finally coming alive. Next week will be more challenging in facing our two strongest region foes, but the team is working daily at improving and playing error-free ball.”

The Lady Wolverines faced Gordon Lee’s Lady Trojans Tuesday before traveling to Armuchee on Thursday. Game time at Armuchee is 5 p.m. Dade will play host to LaFayette on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
