EFFIE BLAND

Effie Louise Bland, 84, of Henagar, Ala., passed away Nov. 25.

Interment was in New Home Cemetery in Henagar, Ala.

RUBY CARTER

Ruby Kilgore Carter, 86, of Trenton, passed away Nov. 26. She was retired from the Dade County School System where she served as a teacher for 37 years.  She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma and Dade County Retired Teacher Association.  She was a member of the Magby Gap Church of Christ where she also taught class.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Edward Carter, Sr.

Survivors include sons, Curtis (Ava) Carter, Jr., of Trenton and Redgie (Sandra) Carter of Flintstone; daughters, Della (Bill) Sampson of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Betty Carter Gray of Trenton; two grandsons, six granddaughters, eight great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters.

Funeral services were  Nov.29, in the funeral home chapel with son-in-law Bill Sampson officiating. Interment was in Bryant, Ala. Visit www.RyanFuneralHome.net to share memories and condolences.

THOMAS CASTLEBERRY

Thomas W. Castleberry, 71, of Rising Fawn, passed away Nov. 24.  He was retired from Sherman–Riley, LLC of Chattanooga, Tenn., were he worked as a machinist.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Edna Castleberry.

Survivors include his wife Pam Castleberry of Rising Fawn; two stepsons, Darrell (Leslie) Pardue of Rising Fawn and Thomas (Cindy) Pardue of Trenton; stepdaughter, Christie (John) Haswell of Trenton; brother, Ronald (Reva) Castleberry of Rising Fawn; sister, Evelyn Giles of Rising Fawn; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services were Nov. 26, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Billy Wallace officiating. Interment was in Deer Head Cove Cemetery.

BETTY COLE

Betty Shaw Cole, 66, of Ider, Ala., passed away Nov. 28.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Cole; son, Billy L. Childress; parents, Harvey and Ola Hurst Shaw; brothers, Billy Junior Shaw, John Andy Shaw; and sister, Annie Blevins.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby and Heather Childress of Ider, Ala., Greg and Amanda Cole of Pisgah, Ala., Alvin L. Childress of Sylvania, Ala.; brother, Alvin Houston Shaw of Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; sisters, Mildred Gore of Flat Rock, Ala., Georgia Britt of Henagar, Ala., Joy Marie Blevins of Flat Rock, Ala.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. CST at Kerby Funeral Home with Rev. Johnny Ellison officiating.

Interment will follow in Beulah’s Chapel Cemetery in Flat Rock, Ala.

VELMA HOLLAND

Velma Jean Holland, 86, of Chattanooga, Tenn., passed away Nov.25, at her residence.

Holland was born on July 25, 1925, and was a graduate of Marion County High School. She was a Certified Public Accountant and was one of the first ladies to own her own firm, Jean Holland, CPA from 1969–2001. She was the past president of Tennessee Association of Accounts, and held memberships in ASWA, NSA, IMA, Zonta Club of Chattanooga and Sister Cities. She served on the Hamilton County Nursing Home Board and Multiple Sclerosis Board.  She was a member and former Sunday school teacher at Greens Lake Road Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, T. W. “Woody” Holland; her parents, James and Lena Conner; and a brother, James L. Payne.

Holland is survived by her daughters, Debra J. Cope of Harrison, Tenn., Nancy Holland Montoya and her husband Frank of Ooltewah, Tenn.; grandsons, Dallas Cope and Chase Cope both of Chattanooga; granddaughter, Franshaun Baca of Albuquerque, N. M.; great grandchildren, Ali and Dylan Cope; sister, Margie Payne of Summerville and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Nov. 29, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Minister James Lewis officiating. Burial was in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

MARGARET MCDONALD

Margaret “Cricket” McDonald, 80, of Rossville, died Nov. 27. She was a member of the Rossville Baptist Tabernacle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. McDonald and parents, Isaac and Mae Taylor.

Survivors include sons, John Wayne McDonald, Rossville and Wendell (Melissa) McDonald, Ft. Oglethorpe; brother, Dun Taylor, Trenton; one grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be today at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Witon and Mike Gregg officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time.

CLARA MOUNTAIN

Clara Ruth Mountain, 94, of Bridgeport, Ala., passed away Nov. 26.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Laura “Bell” Tankersley; brother, Cecil Tankersley; sisters, Elsie Ashcraft and Nellie Brown.

Survivors include her husband, Louie Mountain of Bridgeport, Ala.; sisters, Audrey Messer of Seymour, Tenn., Doris Devine of Rossville, Barbara Gibson of Georgetown, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were Nov. 28 at Henagar Community Cemetery with Rev. Melvin Slatton officiating.
