The Dade County High School football team wrapped up spring practice with the annual spring football game last Friday night. The inter-squad scrimmage gave coaches and fans a chance to see what lies in store for next year’s team.
Coach Bradley Warren offered the following evaluation of the scrimmage.
“We went into the spring with a major goal of getting our guys ready to play. We fulfilled that goal.
We divided up into two teams of 25 players each and let them play wide–open Friday night. We wanted to see what they would do when it was their turn to step up and play.
We have preached a concept of the “next man” all spring long telling each of our players you could be the next man in the game, will you be ready?
Friday answered many questions for us as a team. We feel like we have some depth in the offensive backfield and we were very pleased to see Luke Riddle and Houston Poston each lead the offense for several scores on the night.
We were looking at several key areas this spring in preparation for the fall season. We had a few questions about our offensive line play, our defensive secondary, and a long snapping position. We feel like we came away with knowing who our offensive line personnel will be, we made progress in the secondary and we are still developing a long snapper.
Some of our key strengths this year will be depth at many of the positions, our running game looked outstanding, and our team chemistry is very good right now. We are going to have to continue to get better with our offensive line pass protections, we have to give our quarterbacks some time in our play action passing game, and we will have to continue to improve in the secondary over the summer.
Overall I was very proud of our effort this spring from our coaches and players. It was really great to see them compete Friday night.
We will have a break at the first of June and then we will begin our summer program heading into camp during the middle of July. This team should be a really fun and exciting bunch to see this fall.”
The home team won the scrimmage 28-14.
