Political Debates
Do you plan to attend any of the political debates planned throughout the county in the coming weeks?

Sydney Vaughan looks for the umpire's call after sliding into home during last Wednesday's game against Pepperell.

The Dade County Lady Wolverine softball team opened Region 7AA tournament play on Saturday looking for a spot in the upcoming State Tournament.

The Lady Wolverines opened against Pepperell, a team they had defeated earlier in the week, and came away with a big 6-2 win.

Madison Gossett pitched a complete game three hitter, striking out 14 in the process but also giving up eight walks.

She also led the Lady Wolverine hitters – picking up three hits and a pair of RBI’s in the process.

Madison Lacy and Hailey Gass had a pair of hits each with Lacy also scoring a run and hitting a triple.

That win set up a game with the Chattooga Lady Indians. The Lady Wolverines took the lead in the third inning with a single run but came back and added three in the fourth before the Lady Indians scored.

The Lady Indians, down 4-0, scored one run in the fifth and added two more in the sixth to cut the Lady Wolverine lead to 4-3.

The Lady Wolverines would put the game away in the seventh when they plated another run and came away with a big 5-3 win that assured them a place in the state tournament.

Gossett picked up the win giving up only one hit and striking out 11.

Summer Stevens and Ali Birchfield led the Lady Wolverines at the plate with a pair of hits each.

That win left the Lady Wolverines playing in the winner’s bracket finals against Calhoun. The game was scheduled for Monday but was pushed back until today due to Monday's heavy rainfall.

Regardless of the outcome Dade advances to state play and are now playing for one of the two host team slots for the first round of the tournament. The top two teams host with the next two traveling.
