Do you plan to attend any of the political debates planned throughout the county in the coming weeks?

Ringgold artist Jan Coulter Harless' work will be featured in the Mountain Gallery next weekend during the New Salem Mountain Festival. She is pictured with her husband.

The 38th annual New Salem Mountain Festival will be Oct.13–14 at the New Salem Community Center.

Approximately 100 artists and craftsmen will be exhibiting. Many local residents will be displaying as well as a wide selection of exhibitors from throughout the South. Exhibits will include paintings, pottery, wood turning, wood carving, furniture, stained glass, iron works, jewelry, candles, wreaths, leather, luggage, purses, quilts, throws, soaps, brooms, scarves, needlework, children’s clothing and accessories, fabric, chimes, vegetables, jellies, condiments and much more.

Featured in the Mountain Gallery will be the work of Ringgold artist Jan Coulter Harless. Harless paints North American wildlife, and many of her  images have been reproduced and sold nationwide. At New Salem this year, she will introduce her two newest wolf paintings, which will be available for purchase as canvas and paper prints. The woodsy, natural location of the New Salem Mountain Festival is the perfect setting for Jan’s realistic wildlife artwork. Her artwork can be viewed at southwoodnaturals.com.

Entertainment will be provided both days and door prizes will be given away throughout each day. Hours of the show are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The show will be held rain or shine. Admission is $5 for adults with children 11 and under free. Parking is free.

The festival is sponsored by the New Salem Community Improvement Club, Inc., a non-profit organization, and strives to provide something of interest for visitors of all ages. Staffed by a dedicated group of volunteers all proceeds benefit the New Salem Community Center and New Salem Fire and Rescue.

New Salem Community Center is located on Lookout Mountain at 12477 Highway 136, between Trenton and Lafayette. For more information call (706) 398-1988. No pets allowed.
