James L. “Jim” Bradford, 71, of Lanett, Ala., passed Oct. 5, 2012. Born Jan. 18, 1941 in Rising Fawn, Bradford was a master barber and owner and operator of Jim’s Barber Shop for more than 50 years in the Valley area. He enjoyed singing in several quartets over the years as a bass singer of gospel music. He fought a courageous fight against pancreatic cancer. Bradford was a member of Spring Road Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his stepson, Daniel Blanks.

Survivors include his wife, Tawana Bradford; two daughters, Tammy (Jeff) Davis and Cindi Brown; his son, Tommy Bradford; one stepson, Brian (Leah) Blanks; grandchildren, Brandi (James) Burrows, Heather Murphy, Hannah Bradford, Russell Bradford and Ella Claire Blanks; a daughter-in-law, Amy Bradford; great-grandchildren, Lexus, Bubba, Alyssa, Garrett and Landon; a sister, Sarah Vail; and a host of cousins from Rising Fawn, Ga.

Funeral services were Oct. 7 at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley with the Rev. David Bradshaw officiating. Burial was in Johnson Memorial Gardens in Valley.

Thomas Marshall “Tommy” Crowe, 69, of Wildwood, passed away Oct. 3.  He was a wonderful man full of wisdom and life. He was retired from Roadway Express after 30 years of service and a member of Teamsters Local #515. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Wildwood United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman C. and Violet Ruth Neely Crowe.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Holland Crowe; daughter, Cynthia Crowe (Duane) Schermerhorn; son, Kevin Marshall Crowe, all of Wildwood, and Marsha Potter of Hixson, Tenn.; granddaughter, Neely Morgan Schermerhorn; brother, Robert Leon Crowe; and uncles Franks and Joe Neely of Wildwood.

Funeral Services were Oct. 7 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Andrew Givens and Dr. Curtis Schofield officiating. Devin Tyler Durden, 21, of Buford, passed away Oct. 4.

Durden was a 2009 graduate of Buford High School where he played on the 2008 and 2009 State Championship football team and received the two State Championship rings and was a key player. He was a student at the Air Force Academy stationed in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he played on the Air Force Falcons football team. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Buford. Devin was a cherished son, beloved brother and grandson, great teammate and an honorable cadet.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Rev. James O. Langston; paternal grandmother, Josie S. Durden; and paternal uncle, Randall Eugene Durden.

Survivors include his parents, Gene and Cherie Durden, Buford; sister, Danielle Durden; brothers, Christian Durden and Coby Durden; maternal grandmother, Margaret Langston, Buford; paternal grandfather, Eugene Durden, Silverstreet, S.C.; aunts and uncles, Sherri and David Simmons, North Augusta, S.C. and Ann and Johnnie Ward, Brunswick; uncle, Jim Langston, Taylorsville, N.C.; and several cousins. 

Funeral services were Oct. 7 at 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Buford with Rev. Reese Fauscett, Rev. Wayne Johnson, Coach Dexter Wood and Mr. Stuart Hall officiating. Interment with military honors was at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford with Rev. Eddie Cantrell officiating.

Elbert Milton Holmes, 64, of Trenton, passed away Oct. 3 in a local hospital. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Milton and Emma Jane Bible Holmes, Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Holmes of Trenton and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Oct. 5 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Al Kaschimer officiating. Interment was in Tinker-Gass Cemetery.

Stella Mae Kelley, 87, of Hixson, Tenn., passed away Oct. 3. She had lived most of her life in the Chattanooga area. She was the widow of Rev. Raymond Kelley. She had worked along with her husband in various churches and for the Hamilton County Baptist Association. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Rev. Clifford W. Kelley; brothers, Johnny Bean and Billy Bean.

Survivors include her son, Joe W. Kelley of Wildwood; grandchildren, Connie (Steve) Harwood of Alpharetta, Lisa Kelley of Stuarts Draft, Va., Barry (Anne) Kelley of Wichita, Kansas, Jeff (Kim) Kelley of Easley, S.C. and Jason (Carla) Kelley of Easley, S.C., seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Leona Norman and Anita Haddon, both of Winchester, Tenn.; brother, Allen Bean of Winchester; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Oct. 6 at Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace with Rev. Jim Hixon officiating. Interment was in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Carl Junior McIntire, 69, of Pisgah, Ala., passed away Oct. 5.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bertha McIntire; brothers, James McIntire and Robert McIntire.

Survivors include his wife, Sue McIntire; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Randy King all of Pisgah, Ala., Carla McIntire of Wetumpka, Ala., Vickie and Mike Gray of Fyffe, Ala.; brother, Steve McIntire of Pisgah, Ala.; sisters, Gertrude Bennett and Linda Knowles both of Fla.; grandchildren, Joshua Hairston, Kyle Hairston, Brittany King, Cody King, Race Laney, Derrick Mince; great-grandchildren, Emery Hairston, Jadyn Hairston and Easton Hairston.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Pearl G. Satterfield, 98, formerly of Rossville, passed away Oct. 7, at her home in Rainsville, Ala. She previously lived in Trenton, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and Rossville. Mrs. Satterfield was a member of Parkway Baptist Temple.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Clifford Goolesby and  James E. Satterfield; and a son, Cliff Goolesby Jr.

Survivors include her sons, Ronnie W. Satterfield, Chattanooga, and Lonnie J. Satterfield, Ft. Oglethorpe; daughters, Faye Johnson, Rainsville and Mary Rakestraw, Marietta; brother, Howard Gant, Henegar, Ala.; sister, Ruth Satterfield, McCalla, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are at 2:30 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jerry Adkins and Dr. David Sampson officiating. Interment will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
