The Dade County Lady Wolverines played a pair of sub-region games last week with mixed results.

On Tuesday night they hosted the Calhoun Lady Yellow Jackets who currently sit on top of the sub-region standings.

The Lady Wolverines came out hot and jumped out to an early lead on the visiting Lady Yellow Jackets.

Playing great defense and hitting key shots the Lady Wolverines jumped out to an 11-0 lead with three minutes left in the first quarter.

The Lady Yellow Jackets warmed up from the three–point line and closed the gap to 16-9 by the end of the first quarter.

A 12–0 run by the visitors to start the second quarter left the Lady Wolverines down 21-18 and they were never able to regain the lead in the first half and went to the locker room trailing 28-26.

The Lady Wolverines regained the lead early in the third quarter when Holly Gross hit a pair of free throws to put them on top 31-30.

Over the next five minutes the Lady Yellow Jackets hit five three–point shots to pull out to a 51-39 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Wolverines couldn’t recover from the three–point shooting of the Lady Yellow Jackets and fell 65-48.

The visiting Lady Yellow Jackets hit 11 three–point shots in the game.

Ansley Chilton led the Lady Wolverines with 18 points while Erika Woodfin scored 12; Holly Gross scored 8, Abby Bradford 6 and Lindsey Tinker 4.

On Friday night the Lady Wolverines traveled to Gordon Central to face the Lady Warriors in the last sub-region game of the regular season.

The host Lady Warriors jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but the Lady Wolverines rallied and held a three point lead at the end of the first quarter 12-9.

The tough Lady Warriors battled the Lady Wolverines throughout a first half that saw five lead changes. At the end of the first half Gross hit a three–point shot to give the Lady Wolverines a 22-20 lead.

The third quarter was low scoring with the Lady Wolverines taking a 31-24 lead into the fourth quarter.

The host kept battling but the Lady Wolverines kept up the pressure and came away with a big 43-36 win.

Woodfin led the Lady Wolverines with 14 points, Chilton added 10 and Gross and Tinker scored 6 points each.

On Tuesday night the Lady Wolverines were to host Model in a cross–over game before the sub-region tournament begins on Friday night at the DCHS gym.

The Lady Wolverines ended the season in a three–way tie for second in sub-region but a coin toss left them with the fourth seed and a Friday night game against either
Gordon Central or North Murray. Game time will be 7 p.m.

A win will put the Lady Wolverines against Calhoun on Saturday night at 7 p.m. with the loser playing on Monday at 4 p.m. and the winner playing for the championship on Monday at 7 p.m.

Be sure to come out and support the Lady Wolverines during the sub-region tournament.
