Dade Mom Alerts Police
A LaFayette woman has been charged with statutory rape for her involvement with a 15–year–old Dade County boy.
Crystal Cothren, 20, was arrested over the weekend when LaFayette police found the couple and Cothrene’s two small children inside her apartment according to the police report.
The mother of the 15–year–old had alerted police.
Cothren had driven to Trenton and picked up the juvenile.
The age of consent in Georgia is 16.
Cothren is currently free on bond but could face prison time. Her next court date is in November.
Highway 11 Dedication
American Legion Post 106 will dedicate Highway 11 as the “William Taylor Richards Memorial Highway” Saturday at 2 p.m. The dedication ceremony will be at the Legion. State Senator Jeff Mullis and Dade County Executive Ted Rumley will speak at the dedication. Sgt. Richards’ widow, Emily, will also be at the ceremony.
After the ceremony any and all are welcomed to follow the American Legion Riders, Rolling Thunder MC and the Patriot Guard Riders as they ride to the Alabama state line and follow Highway 11 to the Tennessee state line.
Legion members will be posted at the Tennessee line and when the motor brigade approaches the highway sign will be unveiled.
Final BOE Public Hearing
A final public hearing on the Dade County Board of Education’s proposed budget will be Monday at the board’s building on Highway 136 East, just in front of Dade High School.
The hearing will be at 6 p.m. and is the last chance for the public’s voice to be heard before the board votes.
