By: Cordell Holloway, The Way I See It

I once read that a motivational speaker said that he kept a small card in his desk which read “dream no small dreams, for they stir not the hearts of men.” Probably more than once that simple statement has kept many of us from retreating from our dreams.

I know from experience that it is impossible to lead without a dream. I have seen in my 50-plus years of ministry, members and churches fail because they refused to dream. When leaders are no longer willing and capable of dreaming it is only a short time before followers are unwilling to follow.

So dream! Dream big! Dream often! Somewhere in those random ideas that flood your mind, is one that will capture your heart and imagination. It just may be that that one dream will evolve to dominate your very being.

I once heard a man say that ‘dreamers allow their minds to wander outside the boundaries of what is, there by creating a mental picture of what can be.’ Dreamers are not always the most highly educated or the most talented people, they are simply people who think about what might be. They refuse to put boundaries on their thinking and refuse to limit themselves to what others have done. Doing this requires courage and lots of it.

Every great accomplishment begins as a dream in someone’s heart. All things are created twice, first in someone’s mind then in their life.

No sooner is your dream conceived than your mind is filled with all the reasons why it won’t work. There will be plenty of folks standing around who will quickly confirm those fears why your dream won’t work.

In spite of that you must forge ahead and dream. Dream big dreams! Dream, otherwise you will spend the rest of your life fulfilling the dreams of others. As the motivational speaker said, “Rise up, this matter is in your hands…take courage and do it!” And that’s the way I see it for this time.
